About the Artwork
This print is Heather Gwen Martin’s first foray into printmaking. We at Haystack were thrilled when she agreed to do her very first print with us. She traveled to Asheville, North Carolina to create these works in the PS Marlowe Studio with Master Printer Phil Sanders.
Curatorial Opinion
The delicate placement of the blue form floating amid the red background creates gentle yet intense movement. The blue form becomes like an organism, flying or floating on the updrafts of the fiery sea. In a two-dimensional composition, the eye is often drawn to the color red. With the word play of Tunnel Vision, we notice that our
eyes are drawn directly to the center of the composition, where the blue form offers a
spot of cool.

About the Artist
Heather Gwen Martin (b.1977, Saskatoon, Canada) is a painter based in Los Angeles who is interested in the human aspect of painting. The colors are hot and bright, nearing hard edge abstraction while maintaining the mark of the hand. Each shape is poetic, with flourishes of elegant movement akin to dancing.
