About the Artwork
This print is Heather Gwen Martin’s first foray into printmaking. We at Haystack were thrilled when she agreed to do her very first print with us. She traveled to Asheville, North Carolina to create these works in the PS Marlowe Studio with Master Printer Phil Sanders.
Curatorial Opinion
In this work by Heather Gwen Martin, we can see the six separate colors, but only when you look very closely. At times, the subtlety of her hues can be lost at first glance. On the right side of the composition, a delicate sea foam green emerges when you take a second look.
About the Artist
Heather Gwen Martin (b.1977, Saskatoon, Canada) is a painter based in Los Angeles who is interested in the human aspect of painting. The colors are hot and bright, nearing hard edge abstraction while maintaining the mark of the hand. Each shape is poetic, with flourishes of elegant movement akin to dancing.
