About the Artwork
This print is Heather Gwen Martin’s first foray into printmaking. We at Haystack were thrilled when she agreed to do her very first print with us. She traveled to Asheville, North Carolina to create these works in the PS Marlowe Studio with Master Printer Phil Sanders.
Curatorial Opinion
In Heather Gwen Martin’s print, Heights, we see many biomorphic forms. One form in navy blue arcs over the top of the composition and puts our imaginations out to sea. The yellow drop-like form is under navy blue’s arch, and the small green forms gather. There is a sense of flowing in and out in this colorful abstraction.
About the Artist
Heather Gwen Martin (b.1977, Saskatoon, Canada) is a painter based in Los Angeles who is interested in the human aspect of painting. The colors are hot and bright, nearing hard edge abstraction while maintaining the mark of the hand. Each shape is poetic, with flourishes of elegant movement akin to dancing.
