About the Artwork
This one-color copper plate intaglio print uses line etching and aquatint to combine precise linear detail with subtle tonal variation. A six-piece chine collé of Thai mulberry paper is applied during printing, integrating delicate handmade textures into the image. Across these three intaglio processes, Tomory Dodge explores the tension between control and improvisation. Line etching provides a structured foundation, while aquatint, spit-bite, and sugar-lift introduce instability, gesture, and tonal depth.
