About the Artwork

Each impression was produced through a complex, multi-plate copper intaglio process incorporating line etching, spit bite, sugar lift, aquatint, and open bite techniques. This combination was selected to translate the artist’s gestural and layered approach into print, capturing the subtle interplay of line, tone, and mark variation.

Curatorial Opinion

Tomory Dodge creates intriguing abstract works that explore the physical qualities of paint and the endless ways it can behave across the picture plane. His work celebrates the medium—an exuberant play of pigment and texture expressed through smart, dynamic compositions. Through his elaborate designs, Dodge guides viewers on a kaleidoscopic journey of color, form, and movement.

About the Process

Haystack works with both traditional printmakers and digital printers to ensure each artist’s print reflects the most important aspects of their studio practice. Untitled was printed in collaboration with the artist and PS Marlowe Studios, Asheville, NC. Master printer Phil Sanders, assisted by Lindsey Sigmon, worked with Tomory to determine and implement the printing processes that would best achieve his vision.
