About the Artwork
This Ordinary Earthbound Mortal comes to life through a fusion of screenprinting, lithography, and collage techniques. Bold colors contrasted with several shades of gray are used to mimic the effect of traditional tools used for painting and drawing. These undulating layers are composed in purposeful relation to the others, resulting in a composition that can be read in small sections and as a universal whole.
Curatorial Opinion
A vibrant tree canopy is formed from an array of brightly colored blocks in shades of green and yellow, creating an effect that feels both organic and geometric. The subject is anchored againstc bold, angular swathes of blue and green juxtaposed with a delicate field of intricate, circular patterns in muted pinks and whites. Scattered throughout are circular medallions with unique geometric designs, a hallmark of Hashimoto’s light and airy aesthetic.

About the Process
Haystack works with both traditional printmakers and digital printers to ensure each artist’s print reflects the most important aspects of their studio practice. This Ordinary Earthbound Mortal was printed in collaboration with the artist and PS Marlowe Studios, Asheville, NC. Master printer Phil Sanders, assisted by Lindsey Sigmon, worked with Jacob to determine and implement the printing processes that would best achieve his vision. Each print was created by a combination of lithography, screenprinting, and collage.
