Biography
Clare Rojas (b.1976, Columbus, OH) is a painter, sculptor, installation artist, and musician whose multidisciplinary practice brings together abstraction, folk traditions, feminist perspectives, ecological concerns, spirituality, and storytelling. Across these varied forms, her work explores the ways cultural memory, the natural world, and personal experience intersect.
Born and raised in Columbus, Rojas built much of her career in Northern California before recently returning to Ohio. This homecoming marks both a geographic and personal shift—a return to place and to self. Since her return, elements such as flat horizon lines, migratory birds, and the Midwestern landscape have reasserted themselves in her visual imagination, alongside more iconic forms rooted in her Peruvian heritage.
Rojas received a BFA in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where her early training informed her sensitivity to color, layering, and process.
Haystack Perspective
Haystack is pleased to present two limited editions by Clare Rojas—Journey of Souls and Just Take It All—released in conjunction with her exhibition Clare Rojas: Returning at the Columbus Museum of Art.
Each edition is a meticulously layered silkscreen composed of 15 colors, produced in collaboration with master printmakers at Powerhouse Arts. Translating the chromatic complexity and visual depth of Rojas’s paintings into print, these works reinterpret the original compositions through distinct processes within traditional silkscreen practice.
In Journey of Souls and Just Take It All, Rojas’s recurring imagery—birds, moons, suns, tides, and flowers—takes on renewed resonance, offering a visual language that is at once deeply personal and universally familiar. The editions extend her exploration of color, form, and symbolism while creating an additional point of entry into the exhibition and the broader context of her practice.
Through this collaboration, Haystack continues its commitment to working closely with artists and master printmakers to produce editions that honor material, process, and artistic intent.
