Moyer creates multidimensional effects while building compositions with thin, aqueous layers. Rough vertical strokes evoke wood grain, producing surfaces where color seeps into cracks—a technique she likens to a hybrid of stain painting and furniture finishing.

Mommy Long Legs was printed by the artist and Powerhouse Arts, working closely with Moyer to determine and implement printing techniques that would best reproduce one of her original paintings into a limited edition print.
Curator's Note
Moyer describes Mommy Long Legs as having a subtly narrative structure: creeping rays or energy at a window, three flat spheres in the clouds, and a cloud-like mass emerging as fingerprints.
Blending natural, bodily, and atmospheric forms, Moyer’s work entwine fragmented bodies and shifting environments in moments of sensuality.
About the Artist
Carrie Moyer (b.1960, Detroit, MI) is a painter whose works reimagine movement, weight, and suspension using an expanded palette of materials that reshape the canvas and redirect the flow of poured pigment. Her works echo the scale of geological shifts, the sweep of winds, and the rhythm of orbiting bodies.
